Organizers of the petition seeking to force a recall election of St. Tammany parish Coroner Dr. Christopher Tape are calling it: they're short of the signatures needed.
The deadline to collect around 38,000 signatures is next week.
Recall officials said they were not going to reach that mark.
Last month, recall organizer Noble-Bates Young told WWL First News that they still had around 15,000 signatures to go.
Young said a lot of people seemed to have moved on after initial outrage over revelations that Tape once faced sex crime charges, and his decision to eliminate the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program.
