New Orleans' Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is part of an online readers poll as USA TODAY seeks its readers' opinions on which aquarium in the U.S. is the best.
"The Audubon Aquarium is home to thousands of animals, many endangered, ranging from penguins and stingrays to seahorses and jellyfish," USA TODAY says of the recently-renovated aquarium on the New Orleans riverfront.
"It features the Amazon rainforest’s underwater habitats, a 4,200 square-foot Great Maya Reef exhibit, and the 400,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico tank. Another notable exhibit is an enlarged 13,000-gallon shark and ray touch pool with a 60-foot LED screen that highlights the diversity of the world’s oceans."
The Audubon Aquarium is up against aquariums in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, and Monterey, California, as well as 15 others.
