Audubon Nature Institute says its new riverfront park will open the same day the French Quarter Fest begins.
Goldring Woldenberg Riverfront Park will open to the public on April 16. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting will happen the week before.
The park is on the site of the former Gov. Nicholls St. wharf. Its opening creates a contiguous public space on the Mississippi River stretching from the Riverwalk to Crescent Park in the Bywater.
The entire stretch totals about two-and-a-half miles, the institute says, making it one of the longest contiguous riverfront parks in the country.
"Transforming former working warehouses into a vibrant, accessible green space will make a meaningful impact on our community," said Audubon Nature Institute CEO Michael Sawaya. "This park plays a key role in revitalizing the riverfront and creating lasting benefits for future generations."
