Audubon’s endangered orangutan is expecting twins

The Audubon Zoo announced their endangered Sumatran orangutan "Menari" will soon be a mother to twins.

The zoo says the twins will be the first offspring for "Menari" and father "Jambi".

"We are very excited about this pregnancy," said Audubon's Senior Veterinarian Bob MacLean. "Twinning is extremely rare in orangutans--there is only about a 1% chance of this happening."

Audubon Zoo officials say 12-year-old Menari's care staff and the Zoo veterinary team are working hard to ensure the first-time mother has a smooth pregnancy.
