The Krewe du Vieux announced that its 2022 parade, one of carnival's early big events, will roll without its queen.
"We regret to announce that our 2022 Queen Dr. Jennifer Avegno will not lead the KdV Parade this year," the organization said on its Facebook page. "Due to concern for public and krewe health and safety, our Queen has chosen to reign without participating in the parade."
The bitingly satirical krewe says it was wholly appropriate, given her persona for the parade was "Godess of NO!" Despite her decision to not participate in the parade, Krewe du Vieux says she remains this year's queen.
The krewe also announced that its route will not include the Marigny rectangle, citing insufficient NOPD resources.
"The 2022 parade will start at Elysian Fields Avenue & Royal Street and snake through the Marigny triangle and French Quarter from there," the krewe said. "KdV worked together with NOPD to find the best possible solution for a shorter route given a number of logistical, organizational and safety concerns. This was the least-worst of all options."
