It's a battle for some trying to keep well during the holiday season and beyond.
Just ask Dr. Brobson Lutz with the Orleans Parish Medical Society who points out such illnesses as the flu, Covid-19 and RSV, a common respiratory virus.
He says, "The most important thing, I think, is for people to get an influenza vaccination.
According to Dr. Lutz, "Influenza is really kicking up in Louisiana right now. Typically our season begins in late December or after Christmas."
He also says to, "Get up to date on your Covid immunization. The new booster that's out is excellent and essentially recommended if you haven't had Covid in the last three months.
The third vaccination that Dr. Lutz recommends is one for RSV, that had initially been recommended for children, but is now also recommended for those over 60 years of age.
He says this is an age where people can really be susceptable to RSV also.
Lutz says, "this is a population where a little bit of infection can really throw you over the edge if you have other medical problems."
And if there's any good news about the vaccines, Lutz says "technically" you can get them all at once, or spread them out over time.
