“We pride ourselves on being an inclusive, welcoming space for this city, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped make the Gardens what it is,” the Bayou Beer Garden posted to their Instagram account Friday, October 2nd, the bar’s 17th anniversary.

“Last Sunday,” the post continues, “we had an incident that made it clear something needed to change. We experienced an overwhelming influx of people, many of whom were unfamiliar to us and were not there to enjoy our space in the way it was intended — and we are confident we will fix that.”

The incident referenced was a brawl that, video shows, involved at least 7 bar patrons, a fight that cleared a significant area of the back patio.

The Bayou Bar Garden outlined the following age restriction, which applies only to Sundays, and starts this coming Sunday (Oct. 4th):

  • “30+ all day — valid physical ID required”
  • “This Sunday, due to no game and weather forecast, we will be closing for 6 pm.”

“Our goal is simple: to make every day feel like Bayou again — safe, welcome, fun, and respectful of the people who are here to enjoy it. To feel safe is a right, not a privilege, that extends to both our staff and our guests in our space."
