A burglary suspect running from a Levee District Police officer runs over a bicyclist in New Orleans East during a chaotic car chase with police according to authorities.
The scene unfolded at about 2 p.m. Friday near Downman Road and Chef Menteur Highway as Levee District Officers was responded to a call in the Pine Village area The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports.
The suspect, who is allegedly involved in several car burglaries and carjackings in the area, was spotted by the Levee District officer who gave chase.
Authorities say during the chase the suspect plowed through a bicyclist on Downman Rd. The unidentified cyclist was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
The Levee District officer also crashed into a pick-up truck during the chase. Four people inside the truck were taken to the hospital with minor injures.
Police are still searching for the suspect. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.
