New Orleans’ own Queen of Bounce music, Big Freedia will co-host the New Orleans telecast segment of “Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest” on New Year’s Eve.

Big Freedia will be joined by another New Orleans native, Grammy winning musician PJ Morton.

Morton will sing "Auld Lang Syne" as the lighted fleur de lis in downtown New Orleans drops at midnight.

Daigle drew the ire of Mayor LaToya Cantrell after she joined an impromptu Christian rally while she was riding her bicycle in the French Quarter earlier in December.

Cantrell sent a threatening letter to the producers of the nationally telecast New Year’s celebration, demanding that Daigle be removed from the show line-up. Later, it was reported that Daigle was never formally confirmed to be in the show line-up.

Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser fumed over Cantrell’s letter saying the move put the state at risk of missing the national coverage, which he says the state and city desperately needed as tourism dropped in the state due to the pandemic.

“We are beyond excited that Big Freedia and PJ Morton, two of New Orleans' brightest musical lights, will be shining for our city and before the entire world as we ring in the New Year." Cantrell said in a statement released Monday.

"Even though we won't be watching this performance in person, we will be watching from the safety of our homes as 'Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021' rings in the New Year with that special New Orleans flavor.”

This year marks the 49th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve". The nationwide New Year’s Eve celebration, which features iconic performances of the year’s biggest songs, airs live on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 7 p.m. (CST).
