Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser joined my show today and informed listeners that although his bill to properly dispose of balloons and ban balloon releases passed the House and Senate without friction, Governor Landry chose to veto it without explanation.

“I just got word that the governor vetoed my balloon bill," Nungesser states. "I’m blown away. Keep Louisiana Beautiful worked so hard to get people to understand the importance of disposing of these balloons (responsibly). I have dozens of pictures of pelicans, turtles, even baby cattle that ingest balloons that land in the pastures.”

Nungesser also explained that the bill didn’t request a single cent from the state budget.

“From the stroke of a pen, he just killed it,” Nungesser states.

Nungesser speculates that Landry may have killed the bill due to a personal beef with a state representative (whom he did not name) for failing to align on a vote with him on key bills duing the legislative session.
