The St. Tammany Parish Marine Division recovered the body of a 28-year-old kayaker late Tuesday evening on Doubloon Bayou near Slidell.
“At approximately 10 p.m. a man called STPSO to report his adult son missing after he located the son’s kayak overturned in the bayou behind his house. The son was last seen fishing in the bayou at 5:30 p.m. that evening,” says the sheriff’s office in a press release.
St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has identified the man as David Anderson, 28, of Slidell.
The STPSO Marine Division used flatboats to search the area for the overturned kayak and found the man’s body underwater shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
“My condolences go out to this family,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Let this unfortunate event serve as a reminder to everyone to please wear life vest at all times when on the water.”
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating the incident.
