Bogalusa mayor arrested on drugs, prostitution charges

The mayor of Bogalusa is out of jail after posting bond Tuesday.

Authorities arrested him on drug and prostitution charges.

Officials with Louisiana State Police confirmed later in the morning that they arrested Tyrin Truong in connection with a joint drug trafficking investigation that had been operating in the Bogalusa area. According to a statement issued by State Police, Truong was involved in an organization that distributed opioids, cannabis, THC products, and Ecstasy pills. Investigators further allege that this group Truong was associated with used social media platforms to "distribute drugs and manage payments, further expanding their reach and criminal activity."

According to investigators, the members of the enterprise used money generated from the drug sales to purchase guns, some of which were passed on to people who were prohibited by law from possessing weapons.

Truong is facing one count each of transactions involving drug proceeds, unauthorized use of a moveable, and soliciting for prostitutes. Truong, 25, was elected in 2022, becoming the youngest mayor in the city's history.

Also arrested in connection with the case were MacKenzie Lynn Cefalu, 24; De-Saleem Wali Pittman, 24; Dirul Pittman, 22; Salehal-Dien Malike Pittman, 26; Tonya Renee Stagg, 51; and Devan Michael Williams, 28, all from Bogalusa. Each of these defendants is facing various drugs charges.

Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, the 22nd Judicial District Attorney's Office, and the Department of Environmental Quality all participated in the joint investigation.
