A woman accused of killing a man on Bourbon Street during the summer is now out of jail, and New Orleans court officials have no way to know for certain if she is abiding by court-ordered house arrest provisions.
Mia Lindsey is accused of shooting and killing Christopher Oates on Bourbon Street on June 22. She is facing a second-degree murder charge.
According to the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office, an Orleans Parish judge allowed Lindsey to return to her Mississippi home to serve house arrest. In that ruling, which came last week, Judge Nandi Campbell did not order Lindsey to wear an ankle monitor to track her movements.
In a statement, officials in the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office said it objects to the judge's decision. The statement went on to say that the DA's office asked for an increased bond for another charge, but that request was declined.
