The Barataria Bridge is closed after a barge hit the bridge over night, causing significant damage according to Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner Jr.
Kerner says the Department of Transportation is on the scene to assess the damage and a bus shuttle service is set up for Barataria residents until a ferry is temporarily put into service.
“We have a swamp tour boat that will transport people from Griffen Charters to Jean Lafitte Town Hall. The pickup location will be at the old Barataria church next to bridge where a bus will bring you to Griffin Charters,” said Mayor Kerner.
The bus shuttle service began at 6:00 a.m. this morning.
