Buc-ee's billboard offers mangled salutation

Certainly the reference to a famous line from the film Jerry Maguire was intentional. But was the misspelled punchline also done on purpose?

So far, Buc-ee’s, the popular roadside convenience store franchise, has been mum regarding a billboard that has gone viral on social media more for its mistake than its humor.

Unless the mistake is the humor.

The Buc-ee’s billboard in question is an advertisement for the franchise’s Temple, Tex., location, and the text reads, “You Had Me At Hodwy.”

Not “Howdy”… “Hodwy.”

The billboard’s mangled text was first reported by Lufkin, Tex., country radio station Kicks 105 after it was photographed by the English teacher wife of the station’s morning announcer Danny Merrell.

It’s not the first Buc-ee’s billboard to draw attention for its shortcomings. K99, another country radio station in Colorado, reported a billboard with the store’s logo upside down.

So are these errors meant to be attention-grabbers or merely mistakes? So far, Buc-ee’s hasn’t commented.
