Over the summer, a billboard for convenience store franchise Buc-ee's went viral over a very obvious typo.
Attempting to put a southern spin on a famous line from the early 2000s rom-com Jerry Maguire, the billboard, near the Temple, Tex., location of the store, read, "You had me at hodwy."
The last word is an obvious misspelling of "howdy," but the billboard sparked a lively online debate over just how unintentional the typo might have been, considering how much free publicity it created for the chain.
Now, in true rom-com fashion, Buc-ee's is leaning hard into the "did they or didn't they" fashion by selling a t-shirt embracing the word and even offering a definition.
The shirt claims "hodwy" is an abbreviation for "how did we" used in the south.
Whether the typo was intentional or not, it seems Buc-ee's IS intent on milking it for every drop of promotion they can get out of it.
