Some airlines are sounding the alarm about jet fuel. American Airlines says it’s running into fuel shortages at some smaller and mid-size airports, and in some cases the airline will add refueling stops or fly fuel into locations where the supply is tight. The carrier has asked pilots to conserve fuel by, for example, leaving one engine off while taxiing. Delta Air Lines, says Reno, Nevada, is the most affected location.
Analysts say ocean-freight prices could more than quadruple this year from last year, but toymaker Hasbro will likely be able to weather those steeper costs. Hasbro is raising prices to offset those costs and has digital-gaming and entertainment businesses that aren't dependent on shipping. Higher transport costs would be a larger problem for Mattel, whose business is more anchored in toys that require shipping.
