New Orleans will have a unionized Starbucks shop. Employees at a location on Maple Street have voted 11-to-1 in favor, making it the first Starbucks store in Louisiana to unionize. The shop joins the more than 100 others across the country that have moved to join a union. Starbucks tried to undermine the efforts on Maple Street, firing the lead organizer of the local union campaign last month.
More positive signs from the hospitality industry. Shares of Park Hotels and Resorts are up in pre-market trading after the company released its latest earnings report this morning. In it, Park noted robust leisure demand has led to rising occupancy rates, expected to jump above 75 percent this month in the company’s 46 hotels.
