President Biden is calling on Congress to pass legislation that would avert a rail shutdown by imposing a proposed contract that members at four railroad unions had rejected. The move would cut short a labor dispute between the country’s biggest freight railroads and more than 115,000 workers that threatens to disrupt the flow of goods. Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the House will vote this week on legislation to adopt the tentative agreement.
8 of 12 unions have accepted the proposed contract.
Crispy chicken sandwich lovers…rejoice. Prices for chicken breasts have plunged about 70% since the first week of June. Wings and tenders have gotten cheaper, too, bringing relief to restaurant chains. Wingstop and Popeyes are promoting new chicken sandwiches and wing deals as they seek to keep customers coming back for more. Chipotle recently told investors it believes chicken prices have plateaued.
Futures are mixed after stocks closed sharply lower yesterday. The Dow Industrials dropped 497, the NASDAQ fell 176 and the S&P 500 was down 62.
