Business: Restaurant owners ask Congress for help

The National Restaurant Association is asking Congress to replenish the Restaurant Revitalization Fund as omicron hits operators’ businesses. Last year, lawmakers created the $28.6 billion fund to aid bars and restaurants. Since that fund has been depleted, restaurants have been pushing for Congress to replenish it. Several lawmakers have introduced legislation to do so, but the bills haven’t gained traction.

The CEOs of Occidental Petroleum and ConocoPhillips offered differing outlooks on the growth of U.S. oil output at a conference yesterday, as the industry rebounds from shutdowns during the first stage of the pandemic. Conoco CEO Ryan Lance says he’s bullish about oil, and that high prices “will persist for a while.” Occidental CEO Vicki Hollub says the U.S. would likely surpass 12 million bpd at some point - but fall short of an all-time record.
