The close of this year's Mardi Gras season is fast approaching and will go down as one of the most successful ones yet.
However, not all aspects of the revelry have made the full journey. In fact four parades this year had to cancel. But, there is some history of groups not making it.
With the success of long standing Krewes like Zulu, Rex, Endymion, and Bacchus, it can be hard to imagine many parading groups were not able to sustain. Mardi Gras Guide’s Arthur Hardy had the astounding number.
“Seventy-two major parades that I’ve covered were not able to make it!”
Mr. Hardy says he was blown away at the statistic himself.
“I was shocked when I went through all of my magazines to add it up.”
Now this isn’t as bleak for Mardi Gras as one might imagine.
With an almost 1 billion dollar economic impact on the city, the good times and the Krewes that can sustain will continue to roll.
And, according to Arthur Hardy, there is one more good reason to take into account when it comes to the prosperity of Carnival.
“It’s never been bigger or better because of the variety and diversity. There’s something for everybody.”
