New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell could find herself in another showdown with city council members and a local business after she moved to end an emergency garbage collection contract for the French Quarter.

Our partners at NOLA.com report that Cantrell sent a termination letter to IV Waste, giving the company 90 days' notice that the city would terminate the contract. According to the letter, the contract will be voided on July 30.

IV Waste won the contract in December after the council refused to vote to approve an eight-year, $73 million contract with Henry Consulting, the contractor Mayor Cantrell wanted to handle sanitation duties in the French Quarter. However, a disagreement between Henry Consulting and a subcontractor prompted the council to balk at the deal despite Henry Consulting winning the contract in a bid process.
