Cantrell: We will not be moving into Phase 3.3 this weekend

At her Friday press conference on city’s Hurricane Zeta recovery, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says the city will not move into Phase 3.3.

Cantrell had planned to lessen the city’s COVID-19 restrictions by moving the city into Phase 3.3 by this weekend, which would have allowed bar rooms to serve customers in doors and increased capacity for event venues and indoor/outdoor events. However, she says due to the ongoing Hurricane Zeta recovery efforts and lack of COVID-19 testing, the city will remain in Phase 3.2 restrictions.

“As we’ve moved through this week we have not had adequate testing like we’ve been used to having, that helps us measure how well we are doing,” said Cantrell. “So, without having proper testing sites available as well as moving through the recovery due to Hurricane Zeta, We will not be moving into 3.3 as of this weekend.”

Cantrell says her administration is still focused on easing the city’s COVID restrictions sometime next week.
