A persistent leak under Poydras Street in downtown New Orleans led to a huge hole in the road in front of city hall Thursday night.
The front end of a car was completely below the roads surface after crashing into the massive pot hole.
That lane was recently closed as the surface was fixed.
Crews had been working on and off to try and address the problem that left water on the roadway for the past several months.
The street has been patched repeatedly, but the underlying problem never completely fixed.
In fact, Google Maps images going back ten years show repeated efforts to fix the crumbling road, but water coming back over and over again.
There were no reports of injuries.
