A video of cars doing donuts in the Warehouse District on Sunday has gone viral. It has business owners like Howlin’ Wolf’s owner Howie Kaplan concerned.
Kaplan says a dangerous stunt like this sends the wrong message to visitors and locals about safety in the city.
“This is one of those things that reflects on the city, and reflects on the safety, If you are coming to New Orleans for a convention or if you are coming in for a staycation,” said Kaplan.
No one was hurt during the stunt but Kaplan says a street sign was knocked down and a parked car was hit.
Kaplan says stunts like this are not spontaneous and take a level of coordination to pull off.
“They are not just picking up their phones and calling, they actually monitor the police radios it is a little more sophisticated than just a couple of cars putting on a performance,” Kaplan explained.
The New Orleans Police Department is looking for the drivers and is considering seizing the vehicles involved in Sunday’s stunt.
