Carnival transforms New Orleans into Copland

Hundreds of law officers from all over Louisiana are in New Orleans with the start of parades Friday to help maintain public safety.

"Our NOPD folks are ready," said New Orleans Police Deputy Chief Hans Ganthier. Ganthier said that means a lot of officers working a lot of overtime.


"We'll be working everybody 100 percent, 12-hour shifts," he said.

Joining NOPD on the job will be around 200 officers, deputies, marshals, and constables from 18 agencies across the state.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson's office coordinated the effort.

"We're going to continue to build on these relationships and just do everything that we can to have just a very safe and secure Mardi Gras," said Hutson.

- Pineville City Marshall
- St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office
