The cruise ship Carnival Valor returned today to the Port of New Orleans as the search for a woman who jumped overboard continues.

The Coast Guard is still searching for the 32-year-old woman who went overboard in waters in the Gulf of Mexico about 150 miles offshore Southwest Pass, Louisiana. The ship returned to New Orleans about 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Passengers onboard report to news outlets and social media that the woman was causing a disturbance in a hot tub about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and was detained in handcuffs prior to her jumping overboard from her room’s balcony on the tenth deck of the ship.

Carnival and the U.S. Coast Guard have not confirmed the reports that the woman was handcuffed at the time she went overboard.

“As far as the cause of the woman falling overboard, that is still under investigation,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer Carlos Galaraza.
