"I want to get home from Christmas, but I really want to make sure that our federal government works for someone in need," Bill Cassidy told me in a Friday morning interview.
As he spoke those words, the government was on the verge of a shutdown due to a refusal by congress to pass a spending bill.
However, as of Friday evening the House resolved to pass a spending bill and avoid shutdown right before the holidays.
The bill still must be voted on by the senate. But all indicators show it'll make it through with ease.
But why was the bill so controversial?
I interviewed Senator Bill Cassidy and got him to explain the new spending package, why Trump torpedoed it at first, and Elon Musk's Twitter storm that led fed Americans a lot of disinformation.
The senator also explains why he's a fan of the package and why he believes it'll benefit the workers of Louisiana.
