The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway reopened shortly before 8:30 Thursday morning.
"There was a lot of debris, surprisingly, on the bridge," said Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou.
Even though the bridge spans more than 24 miles of water near the lake's widest point, Dufrechou says the bridge was covered in storm debris.
"It's amazing, we had garbage can covers on it," Dufrechou said. "All kinds of stuff, plant material, much more than I would have anticipated."
Tolls are suspended for now but Dufrechou says they will likely be reinstated this afternoon.
