The Pontchartrain Causeway is now open to general traffic.
According to Causeway general manager Carlton Dufrechou, both southbound lanes are now open, but only one northbound lane is open. The bridge had been closed since Tuesday because of snow and ice resulting from the historic winter storm that hit Louisiana.
Dufrechou asks drivers to exercise extreme caution on the Monroe Overpass leading up to the Causeway on the Mandeville side of the bridge. Dufrechou says crews de-iced the bridge early Friday morning, but the overpass remains slick.
Dufrechou also urges drivers to drive safely and cautiously on the Causeway itself.
