Tolls on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway are just over a month away from going higher.
Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou says the changes will take place November 1st.
That's when those with a toll tag will be charged $3.40 instead of the current $3.00.
The cash price goes from $5 to $6 per trip at the toll booths on the Northshore.
At one point, Dufrechou says it was thought that inflation would push the tolls even higher; $3.70 for tag holders and $7 for those without one.
Dufrechou urges drivers to get a toll tag if they don't have one, since it will save about 40-percent over the cash or credit card price to cross the southbound bridge.
Dufrechou said, "The increases are part of the safety program."
That includes the 12 safety shoulders that were installed and the higher railings on the southbound bridge.
He says the additional money also goes to maintaining the 9,000 piliings that hold the bridge structures up and the 4,000 bridge sections.
Meanwhile, credit cards are now accepted in the cash lanes.
