Friends and family gather today for a final farewell to the matriarch of the Morial family.
"The public is invited to the Celebration of Life for Sybil Haydel Morial, at the Xavier Convocation Center, 7900 Stroelitz St., New Orleans 9:30 am until 11:30 am (doors open at 9:00) at the Xavier Convocation Center," Rhodes Funeral Home posted.
Morial was the first black first lady of New Orleans. Her husband "Dutch" Morial became mayor in 1978. Her son, Marc, was elected as mayor in 1994.
After today's ceremony, the celebration of Mrs. Morial takes to the streets of New Orleans at 2:00pm.
"Morial will be honored with a Traditional New Orleans Funeral Procession, beginning at the New Orleans Museum of Art, 1 Collins Diboll Circle, New Orleans, followed by her burial at St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans."
