After Jefferson Parish council turned down Ramelli Waste's proposal for recycling, there were questions as to whether the program would come back at all.

And, while participation in the recycling effort was low, parish leadership remains hopeful that a suitable option can be found.

Chairman of the Council Scott Walker says that the parish turning down Ramelli Waste was due to legitimate concerns with things like costs.

“Just because we did not move forward with the Ramelli Waste contract does not mean there won’t be recycling in the future of the parish.”

A sound recycling program for Jefferson Parish has been a bit of an issue in past years and Chairman Walker says the council is determined to find creative solutions and not just rely on the status quo.

“There are some communities who are doing this very well.  We will take a look at those places.”

Many residents voiced concerns over parish leadership not finding a viable option, Councilman Walker says that is because the proposals weren’t exactly pouring in for this contract.

“The initial RFP asked for creative responses and we got nothing.
Just the same ole, same ole. People weren’t exactly beating down the door.”

Walker says that a list of drop off sites will be posted to parish government social media in the meantime.
