“I’m issuing a challenge to the parents. To please come forward and step forward and do your part in addressing the issues. Know where your children are. Know what it is that they are doing.”

--Shaun Ferguson, Chief Superintendent, New Orleans Police Department.

Frustrated and fed up with the rash of violent crime gripping the city, with much of it coming from juvenile offenders.

“We will not be able to just arrest our way out of this situation,” Ferguson stated bluntly at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

During his comments, Ferguson blamed the jump in crime to the lack of in-person schooling, implemented to deal with the pandemic. He says youths have too much time on their hands, according to WWL-TV.

“We will continue to do our part to bring justice to those who decide to commit these violent crimes, who decide to break any law,” said The Chief.
