A suspected carjacking leads to a police chase and a crash injuring seven juveniles says New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson.
The carjacking happened at about 10:30 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Deers and Law Streets in the St. Roch neighborhood.
Ferguson says officers spotted the suspected stolen Dodge Ram pickup truck about an hour later and obtained permission to pursue the suspects in the stolen truck.
The chase took police winding through St. Roch and the Lower Ninth Ward before crashing at the intersection of North Robertson and Clouet Streets.
During the pursuit, the truck skidded off the road and struck a light pole, three parked vehicles, and a house.
Chief Ferguson says five male juveniles and two female juveniles all between the ages of 13 and 17-years old occupied the stolen truck.
All seven juveniles inside the truck were injured. The five males are in stable condition.
The two females are in critical condition and were taken by EMS to University Medical Center said Ferguson. He says several handguns were also recovered at the crash scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
