City of New Orleans prepares for bad weather

rain

The metro area is getting ready for a couple of days of occasionally heavy rain. Ramsey Green, they city's Deputy Chief Administrative Officer in charge of infrastructure, says they're working to clear storm drains.

"We have six vac trucks right now, in the streets, working, clearing storm drains that we've already had reported to us or ones that we know are filled up," said Green.

Parking restrictions will be suspended at 9 a.m. Tuesday so people can park their cars on neutral grounds and sidewalks to try and avoid flooding.

Green said trash collection has not been suspended as of this time, but he says residents should remove their garbage cans as quickly as possible.

"Residents should remove all carts and trash bins from the curb and secure them on private property to avoid the loss of the containers during any street flooding or get debris clogged in storm drains."

He said clogged catch basins or tree branches that could fall and knock down power lines should be reported to 311.
