Saints football is back at the Superdome this weekend, and so are the fans. That means tailgating, too, although city officials are urging people to be smart about it and be safe.
Private gatherings of fans, outdoors, before the game are fine.
"Under the COVID-19 guidelines from the city of New Orleans, private tailgating events are excluded from having to show proof of vaccination or negative PCR tests," said New Orleans Mayor's Office spokesman Beau Tidwell. "However, once you get into the Dome, once you go into Champions Square, you will need to present that information at the entrance."
The Saints are ready to welcome their fans back.
"We can't wait to get back in there," said Jen Martindale with the Saints. "We've mise our fans so much."
The organization wants as many fans as possible, so anyone who shows up with a ticket but not proof of vaccination can remedy that situation on the spot.
"We've partnered with Ochsner, actually, to provide free on-site vaccinations for any fan that wants one," she said.
The Saints did this in August for the pre-season game they hosted.
