Eleven boaters are safe and on land after the Coast Guard rescued them from boats that were caught in inclement weather on Lake Pontchartrain.
Coast Guard officials received the first call around 2 p.m. Sunday after a 23-foot pontoon boat became caught in a storm. A Coast Guard crew arrived, pulled the boaters onto the USCG craft, anchored the pontoon boat, and took them to Seabrook Harbor and Marine in New Orleans.
Minutes after receiving the first call, watchstanders received a second call from a boat in danger on Lake Pontchartrain. This time, a 17-foot recreational boat with three people on board were trapped in the storm. A Coast Guard crew anchored the boat, pulled the three boaters onto the USCG craft, and took them to the Bonnabel Boat Launch in Metairie.
Nobody was injured.
