Coast Guard search and rescue crews are searching for 44-year-old Elisander Alvardo.
They say he fell into the Mississippi River near Jefferson Heights in Jefferson Parish Tuesday night.
He was last seen wearing overalls and no life jacket.
“Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call at approximately 3 p.m. from Zito Fleeting reporting one of their barge workers had fallen overboard near mile marker 105 near Jefferson Parish,” said a Coast Guard report.
The Coast Guard deployed a 29-foot Response Boat and a MH-65 helicopter. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is also helping with the search by deploying their own helicopter and a marine rescue boat.
