Two weeks later: Coast Guard to oversee lift boat salvage, 7 people still missing

It has been two weeks since the Seacor Power lift boat capsized seven miles from Port Fourchon and now the Coast Guard will begin overseeing Seacor Marine’s salvage and wreck removal effort.

This will include the safe removal of fuel and oil, from the SEACOR Power. The 234-foot lift boat was carrying potentially 35,000 gallons of fuel, lube oil, hydraulic, and waste oil. There are no reported impacts to wildlife, and responders will continue to monitor as work progresses.

There is an approximate one-mile safety zone around the scene which includes a Federal Aviation Administration temporary flight restriction in the area, and a marine safety bulletin is being broadcasted to vessels that might be in the area.

Six crew members were rescued, six bodies were recovered and seven are still missing. The NTSB and Coast Guard are investigating the incident.
