Talos Energy, the company that hired out the Seacor Power for work on one of its Gulf of Mexico platforms this week, issued a statement saying it had nothing to do with the decision to have the vessel leave Port Fourchon Tuesday and head into severe weather, The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports.

"The vessel was not at a Talos facility and was fully under the command of its captain and Seacor Marine, including when to depart the port," the company said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigting the incident, including how the decision was made to embark for the platform in the open Gulf when forecasts warned of tropical storm-force winds Tuesday.

The 234-foot barge-like vessel capsized in high seas whipped up by winds that may have been at hurricane-strength.

Of the 19 crew members on board, six were rescued, four bodies have been recovered, and nine remain missing.
