Is there enough security at New Orleans Criminal District Court? The people who work there certainly don't think so.
“Still we only have one deputy in court for each section of court where we should have at least a minimum of three deputies in each court,” Judicial Administration Officer Rob Kazik told the New Orleans City Council. “Inmates are still being brought over but each section only gets one inmate each day.”
Kazik and Chief Justice Karen Herman implored the City Council to up security funding for Tulane and Broad in the 2022 budget Wednesday. Herman said the facility has vulnerabilities.
“There is not a single deputy down in the basement and our concern is there are jurors there, and sometimes the gate doesn’t work so people are just walking in and out,” said Herman. “The security is an ongoing, chronic concern of ours.”
