The Mercedes-Benz Superdome and Smoothie King Center have been relatively quiet -- only a fraction of fans for football and basketball, and no concerts to speak of, because of the pandemic. But there are signs of life on the horizon.
Doug Thornton, Vice President of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and Smoothie King Center, says there is a lot of interest from musicians to bring their tours to New Orleans, once it is safe.
"The concert traffic is starting to get pretty interesting from September on through the end of the year," said Thornton. "If we're able to get adoption of the vaccine, and we're able to go back to 100 percent capacity events by September we will have a pretty robust calendar."
Thornton said musicians are just as eager to restart their tours as they are to host them, and they're working to get them confirmed for dates that run all the way into next year.
