Confirmed tornado and flash flooding overnight and early this morning

The National Weather Service says a confirmed tornado touched down near Robert, Louisiana in Tangipahoa Parish around 5:25am this morning.

Very heavy rain has also fallen in areas from Baton Rouge to Hammond and on north along I-55 into Mississippi.

The NWS issued a flash flood warning for parts of Livingston Parish, St. Helena Parish and Tangipahoa Parish Until 8:30am.

WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone says more than five inches of rain fell in parts of the warning area.

The Weather Service says, "Doppler radar indicated nearly stationary heavy rain bands across the warned area... .Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."
