House Majority Leader and Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise will be away from Capitol Hill for about a month of work to undergo new cancer treatment, his office announced Friday.
Scalise, who was diagnosed last year with multiple myeloma, will undergo an autologous stem cell transplant.
The procedure uses the patient's own healthy stem cells to replace bone marrow cells that contributed to his cancer.
"Once the procedure is completed, he will be recovering under the supervision of his medical team and will work remotely until returning to Washington next month," his office said.
