Police say a teen is in stable condition after a deputy shot him several times Monday night on the Westbank.

"Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Marrero," JPSO posted. "The incident began as a stolen vehicle investigation."

The sheriff says that when deputies attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, the driver fled.

"The chase eventually led to the area of Ames Blvd. and 4th St, where one juvenile male jumped out of the vehicle. One deputy followed the male as he ran on foot."

It happened around 7:45pm.

"The deputy located the male between two residences in the 600 block of Silver Lily Ln. The male was armed with a handgun and wearing a balaclava, commonly referred to as a “Pooh Shiesty” mask. During the confrontation, the deputy fired his service weapon."

Lopinto says three of the cop's bullets hit the juvenile.

"The male then followed the deputy’s commands. The deputy handcuffed the male and requested emergency medical services to the scene. The male was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition."

The sheriff says the driver got away.

"The stolen vehicle was recovered nearby, but the driver remains at large."

JPSO asks anyone with information about this incident to call 504-364-5300 or contact Crimestoppers.
