A child was critically injured when he ran into the path of a pickup truck, according to Slidell police.
"A 12-year-old boy is listed in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Father’s Day, in Slidell," Sgt. Jake Morris said in a news release.
It happened shortly before 1:00pm on Sunday.
"The Slidell Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a child being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Fremaux Avenue and 10th Street."
Morris says the preliminary investigation indicated the young boy ran into the roadway, while chasing his dog.
"A Ram 2500 pickup truck, which was traveling east on Fremaux Avenue, struck the boy. As a result of the collision, the child received severe injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, where he is currently listed in critical condition."
Police say traffic investigators are still analyzing evidence and witness statements, but do not suspect impairment or speed to be contributing factors.
