Part of the success story in New Orleans' reduction in crime is how law enforcement has stayed flexible, and not let occasional increases in crime turn into full-blown crime waves.
New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission President Rafael Goyeneche watches crime trends as they move and up and down, and he says the ups on the crime charts don't last as long as they used to.
"So, the most important thing is not allowing those peaks to span over multiple weeks," Goyeneche told WWL's Newell Normand.
Goyeneche says NOPD has been flexible, and with the help of Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA, been able to surge law enforcement into neighborhoods when they notice the crime reports going up, and get it back down.
"The fact that they're doing traffic and drug enforcement, what we're seeing is; a lot of the violence involves drug activity," Goyeneche said,
