New Orleans Police are hoping someone can help solve the case of an officer shot while he was not on the job in Mid-City.

"The NOPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two subjects wanted in connection with a First District shooting in which an off-duty NOPD officer was wounded," according to the police department.

Investigators released the following:

-The first subject, believed to be the shooter, (pictured above) is a black male with facial hair and short twists.
-The second wanted subject (pictured above is a black male with facial hair and waist-length dreadlock-style hair.

The shooting happened on October 12, 2022.

"The officer and a friend were walking in the 300 block of N. Rendon Street, when the officer became involved in a verbal altercation with the subject (short twists). As the altercation escalated, the subject produced a handgun and pointed it at the officer.  The officer motioned toward his cross-body bag (which he was wearing across the body) as he considered retrieving his firearm from inside."

The news release says that's when a struggle ensued.

"Subject then threatened to take the officer's bag. The officer placed his bag on the ground, grabbed the barrel portion of the subject's firearm, and struggled to pull it away. The firearm discharged, striking the officer once in the abdomen. The perpetrator picked up the officer's bag and fled on foot."
