Cops: Tip leads to catching Greenway attacker

New Orleans Police say they have locked up the man wanted for attacking women last week on the running and biking track in Mid City.

"The NOPD has arrested Joseph C. Davis, Black male DOB: 07-24-1985 in connection with the investigation into two sexual assaults along the Lafitte Greenway," according to a news release.


Investigators say a tip from a State of Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole officer, NOPD officers arrested Davis Saturday evening at about 9:30pm.

"NOPD's Sex Crimes Unit issued a warrant for Davis on May 24 after identifying him as the perpetrator who allegedly sexually assaulted two women who were walking or jogging on the Lafitte Greenway on Thursday May 23, 2024."

Both attacks were in broad daylight.

"The first assault happened at North Broad and St. Louis Street at about 7:10 a.m. The second occurred in the 3700 block of Conti Street at about 12:23 p.m."

Davis faces attempted first degree rape and battery charges.

"Investigation into these incidents is active and ongoing."
